Morton Chamber of Commerce

The Chambers of Commerce in Central Illinois work together to advocate for a common agenda with the Illinois General Assembly through CIRCLE (Central Illinois Regional Chambers Legislative Effort).

Each year, we collectively survey our members to identify issues of importance across the region and then share those issues with key members of the General Assembly during an annual CIRCLE event in Springfield.  The event is typically held in March and is open to all Chamber Members.

In April, the Morton Chamber will be joining a collection of 16 Chambers from throughout Central Illinois in the fourth annual CIRCLE Legislative Day in Springfield. As state budget woes continue to negatively impact local companies, business communities are banding together to share their concerns and ideas with state legislators.

“What makes this trip different from any other legislative day is our targeted message on a few specific issues and the sessions that are directed to those issues with a panel of legislators that serve on key committees,” said Jennifer Daly, Executive Director for the Morton Chamber of Commerce. “The sessions also include testimony from our local companies which is extremely powerful in showcasing our concerns.”

This year’s CIRCLE will focus on four key issues including:
#1: Workers Compensation Reform
#2: Public Pension Reform
#3: Minimum Wage Increase
#4: Timely Payment of Bills

The issues were selected by the CIRCLE committee after surveying Chamber Members. “These four issues are the most pressing for the majority of our businesses,” said Daly. “Because of the extreme budget concerns in Illinois, we have an opportunity to instigate important legislative change.”

All Chamber Members are encouraged to attend CIRCLE. “I hope all of our business and community leaders will join us for this important effort,” said Daly. “The only way we can correct the barriers that are keeping Illinois from growth and prosperity is to band together and collectively communicate our concerns.”

This event gives the Central Illinois business community an opportunity to talk directly with area legislators about issues that impact their companies.
